Obituary of Thomas F. Shipley

Thomas F. Shipley, 77, of Meredith Springs Community, passed away Tuesday morning in Fairmont Regional Medical Center. He was born August 21, 1938 in Monongalia County, WV, son of the late Roy and Lillian Rebecca Smith Shipley. Mr. Shipley was a retired construction / iron worker, with 23 years of service, working in various coal mines. He was a member of UMWA local 1597. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Shipley (married 30 years), his son, Mitchel Carpenter of Meredith Springs Community, 2 daughters and their husbands; Michelle and Charlie Grigal of Minnesota and Rebecca Jane and Greg Cox of Ohio, 4 brothers and their spouses; Lee and Nancy Shipley of Sanford Community, Douglass and Greta Shipley of Montana Mines, John and Charlotte Shipley of Farmington, WV, and George Shipley of California, 1 sister, Loretta Volek of Rivesville, WV, 4 grandchildren; Larry Shipley, Louis Shipley and Terri Shipley all of Ohio, and Anna Belle Fimple of Minnesota, and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Donald, Dave, Bobby, and Claude Shipley, 3 sisters; Mary Redmond, Beatrice Flowers, and Betty Hopkins, a brother-in-law, William Volek, and a sister-in-law, Frances Shipley. Thomas has chosen cremation services. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second St, Rivesville, WV 26588, on Friday, 7-22-2016, from 11am until 2pm.
