Obituary of Manuel Earl Glaspell

Manuel “Earl” Glaspell, 80 years of age of Bridgeport, WV went to be with his Lord on December 22, 2020 after a brief hospitalization due to Covid-19. He was born December 2, 1940 in Boothsville, a son of the late Harvey Amos and Della Mae (Tucker) Glaspell. He is survived by his loving wife of six years Donna (Snyder) Glaspell; a son Rick Glaspell and his wife Janet (Davis) Glaspell of Bridgeport, WV; one daughter Tammy Swiger of Flemington, WV; one grandson Travis Swiger and his wife Logan (Grimes) of Jane Lew; one step-grandson Alec Hunter Davis of Grafton, WV; one granddaughter Sarah Young and her husband Colton of Morgantown, WV; two great grandsons Camden Rhett Swiger and Judah David Young and a brother-in-law Jack Rutherford; . He was also preceded in death by his first wife Doris Rae (Rutherford) Glaspell; a son-in-law David Wayne Swiger; six brothers James “Jim” Glaspell, Charles “Bud” Glaspell, Harvey “June” Glaspell, Clarence “Gene” Glaspell, Silas “Si” Glaspell and Howard H. Glaspell; four sisters Ruby Furbee, Betty Saunders, Annie Hayhurst and an infant sister Mary Ruth Glaspell and one sister-in-law Sally Rutherford. Earl graduated from Grafton High School. He was a faithful member of Jewel City Church in Shinnston, WV. He and his wife enjoyed traveling with the church group “Joy Class” to see religious shows. He worked in the coal business and developed many acres of land on Corbin Branch Road. Around the age of 50, he established Route 73 Auto Wrecking. He had a passion for working on old cars, especially Ford Bronco’s. He enjoyed attending car shows with his friends. One of his hobbies included taking great care of his property. He always had a beautiful mowed yard and a flourishing garden that he shared with family and friends. On warm summer days, he could be found outside enjoying the scenery. After Earl was hospitalized with Covid-19, he contacted others to make sure they were taking precautions of wearing a mask and social distancing. He did not want his family and friends to experience what he was facing his final days of life. Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV on Tuesday from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will have a private service celebrating his life at noon with Pastor Robert Shingleton presiding. The interment will be at Claremont Cemetery, Marion County.
