Obituary of Nancy Jo Koon

Nancy Jo Koon, 83, of Fairmont passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was born in Uniontown, PA on February 17, 1937, a daughter of the late Floyd Earl Hibbs and Nellie Catherine Conaway Hibbs. Nancy is survived by her sons, Thomas Eugene Koon and Gregory Rollin Koon; daughters, Kimberly Louise Koon Riley and Monika Lynn Koon; grandchildren, Kimberly Louise Koon Matchem, Megan Leigh Koon Ryan, Joshua Paul Koon, and Hannah Renee Koon; and her friend, Irene Caldwell. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Holbert Hibbs and sister, Loris Hibbs Carothers. Nancy was a 1955 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and a lifetime member of the Marion County Historical Society. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairmont where she taught Kindergarten Sunday School for many years, served on the Social Committee, participated in Women’s Circle, as well as many other church activities. Nancy was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, and West Virginia Mountaineers fan. She loved history and cats. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Nancy’s memory to the Marion County Historical Society, 211 Adams St., Fairmont, WV 26554, or to the Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation, 88 State Park Road, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family has entrusted arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all services will be held privately for the family.
