Obituary of William Loren Schmidt

William Loren Schmidt, 69, of Bentons Ferry, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 12, 1951 in Fairmont, a son of Doris Hurd Schmidt, and the late Robert E. Schmidt, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Lucas Schmidt. Loren was a 1969 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and later a graduate of Fairmont State University. Loren was a Catholic by faith. He retired from C.I. Thornburg where he worked in the sales department. He had previously run his own construction company and had built and remodeled many homes and businesses around Fairmont. He was very talented in his stonework. Loren spent much of his time at work, but in his spare time he had the opportunity to hunt a variety of game from British Columbia, to Wyoming, and even in the Tundra. He proudly displayed many of his game within his home. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada and Lake Erie. Loren loved golfing with his friends and family members, often daily when he and his family owned the Par 3 golf course in Bentons Ferry. Loren was also an avid NASCAR fan, having attended many races within his lifetime, and had his private pilot’s license which he used flying locally. In addition to his mother and wife, Loren is survived by his children, Loren W. and his wife Janet Schmidt of Fairmont, Rob and his wife Shannon Schmidt of Morgantown, and Lori Schmidt Jones of Traverse City, MI, his grandchildren, Justin and his wife Brenda Schmidt of Fairmont, Jacob Schmidt of Fairmont, Maddie Perry and her fiancée Daniel Hopkins of Fairmont, McKinley and Paisley Schmidt of Morgantown, Max and Jack Jones of Traverse City, MI, and his great granddaughter, Everly M. Schmidt. He is also survived by his brothers, Bob “Mole” and his wife Kay Schmidt of Fairmont, John and his wife Rhonda Schmidt of Florida, his sisters, Dotti Lou Schmidt and her husband Allan Fischer of Florida, Elizabeth “Bepe” and her husband Eric Falkenstein, Fairmont. In addition his father, he was preceded in death by his sister Bonnie M. Schmidt. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. In accordance to Loren’s wishes cremation services will be held. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it is required that masks be worn and social distancing be maintained for all arrangements. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 3PM until 7PM. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 7 PM with Reverend Claude Kinty officiating.
