Obituary of Ellen Elizabeth Doerr Murray

Ellen Elizabeth Doerr Murray, 95, of Fairmont, passed peacefully from this life on August 10, 2021, after a long and hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born March 14, 1926, in Taylor County, the only child of Peter John Doerr and Myrtle Bradley Doerr Colebank. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Ellen graduated salutatorian of the Grafton High School class of 1944. After graduation, she temporarily relocated to Chicago, Illinois, and worked in a radio factory to aid in the war effort. Upon her return to Grafton, she married William F. “Bill” Murray and shared 57years with him until his death in 2005. She worked for 18 years in the seal beam division at Westinghouse. Ellen is survived by three daughters: Margaret Kendall Rider (Tom Crusan) of Fairmont, WV; Linda Hearn (Clarence) of Lexington, SC; Pamela Blair (Danny) of Worthington, WV; grandchildren: Shane W.F. Murray (John Dent) Fairmont, WV; Steven Kendall (Janice), Ormond Beach, FL; Scott Blair (Jessie Manire), Denver, CO; Erica Wigley (Jamie), Hampton, VA; Kristen Hearn, Lexington, SC; great-grandchildren: Blair Runion and Devin Runion both of Hampton, VA; her “other little girl” Fran DeMarco Torchia (Larry) of Merritt Island, FL; several nieces and nephews, and special friends Charles “Steve” Dicken and Ann Summers. The family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice Services for their loving care, as well as Dr. Peter Ang for his support during Ellen’s illness. The family would also like to give very special thanks to Ellen’s grandson, Shane Murray, for the love, devotion, and dedicated care he has given his Mamaw for the past several years. Memorial donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 67 Casino Drive, Suite 104, Anmore, WV 26323, or to the charity of the giver’s choice. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Private services will be held with interment to follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.
