Obituary of James Carpenter Moon

James Carpenter Moon, 91, of Fairmont, West Virginia died Monday, December 27, 2021 in the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center, Clarksburg, WV. He was born January 23, 1930 in Cumberland, MD a son of the late Edward Douglas Moon and Mary Ellen Walbert Moon. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Ann Bocelli of Ridgeley, WV, and a granddaughter Samantha Bocelli of New York. He was preceded in death by a brother William D. Moon, and a sister Jeannette Thompson. Mr. Moon formerly worked in teaching & school administration as Principal and Assistant Superintendent in West Virginia (Jefferson, Barbour and Tyler Counties). He was a former Project Manager and Marketing employee for Blackwood Associates for 24 years, and retired as a Consultant for Waco Scaffolding & Equipment in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a 1948 graduate of Ridgeley High School and holds degrees from the following universities: B.A. in History from Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, WV, M.A. in Administration from George Washington University, Washington, DC and Advanced Graduate Studies from University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA. He was in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he served two tours of duty in Korea. Jim earned three Battle Stars and received the “Freedom is Not Free” Medal by the President of South Korea. He played minor league baseball in Binghamton, NY. Jim was a 50 year member of the Mt. Nebo Lodge #91 A.F. & A.M in Shepherdstown, WV. He was a 50 year member of the Osiris Shrine Center Ancient Order of the Mystic Shrine in Wheeling, WV. He also served as Potentate for Osiris in 1999. Jim served as a representative to the Empirical Council for Shriner’s Hospitals. He is a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Martinsburg Orient of WV and a Past Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection. Jim is a Past Grand Tall Cedar and Life member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Shenandoah Forest #150 Martinsburg, WV, Past President of the Eastern Panhandle Shrine Club of Jefferson, Morgan, and Berkeley Counties in WV and a member of the Upper Mon Valley Shrine Club in Fairmont, WV. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. A committal service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the West Virginia National Cemetery, 42 Veterans Memorial Lane, Grafton, WV 26354 with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Military Funeral Honors will be held at the cemetery by the Marion County Military Veteran’s Council. Masonic Ritualistic Services will follow the military honors by the Fairmont Masonic Lodges.
