Obituary of Velma Valentine Kerns

Velma Valentine Kerns, 104, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, peacefully at home in Perry Hall, Maryland. She was born July 1, 1918 in Rivesville, WV, a daughter of the late Clarence and Geraldine Valentine. For many years she was a homemaker and after moving to Florida in 1976 she began working for and retired from K-Mart Corporation. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her son, John A. Kerns of Baltimore MD; daughter-in-law, Elaine Kerns of Punta Gorda FL; brother, Don Valentine of Townsend, DE; six grandchildren, Christine (Andy) Fatkin, Brian (Carmen) Kerns, Candice (Tim) Shearer, Jennifer (Todd) Waszelewski, Ryan (Kyleen) Kerns and Mel (Christine) Lawrence, Jr.; twelve great-grandchildren, Stephanie Kerns, Savannah Kerns, Samuel Fatkin, Benjamin Fatkin, Marin Waszelewski, Thomas Waszelewski, Dylan Shearer, Corinne Shearer, Autumn Shearer, Crystal Lawrence, Jordan Lawrence, and Taylor Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lester B. Kerns originally of Fairmont, WV; her eldest son, James E. Kerns of Punta Gorda FL; four brothers, Virgil, Delmar, Roy, and Glenn Valentine; and her sister Ruby Kulik. Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8 PM, and on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 10AM-11 a.m. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11 AM.
