Obituary of John Robert "Bob" Snider
John Robert “Bob” Snider, 71, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. Bob was born in Fairmont on December 27, 1944, a son of the late George A. Snider and Flossie Gross Snider. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Griffith Snider.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by two sons, Rob Snider and his wife Gretchen and Daniel Snider and his companion Jesse both of DuBois, PA; two grandchildren, Ayden and Noah Snider both of DuBois, PA; two brothers, George “Pete” Snider and his wife Martha of Barboursville, WV and Charles “Rab” Snider and his wife Patty of Fairmont; three brothers-in-law, Mike Riedman of Boulder, CO, Dr. J. Howard Griffith and his wife Linda of Kentucky and John Griffith and his wife Kathy of Fairmont; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Riedman.
Bob was a 1963 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and attended WV Business College until he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Central Christian Church and retired as a dispatcher from the 911 Call Center, though he had also worked for C.W. Stickley and Schlumberger Oilfield Services. Mr. Snider loved watching sports and Nascar Races. He was a real people person with a great voice and a great sense of humor. He was very proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force and liked working in the yard and was very proud that he had built his own log house.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in Bob’s memory to the American Heart Association, WV Region, 162 Court St., Charleston, WV 25301 or to the American Cancer Society, 122 South High St., Morgantown, WV 26501.
The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554, on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at 1 p.m. with Dr. J. Howard Griffith officiating. A committal service will follow in the Samuel Linn Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council.
