Obituary of Harvey Junior Gower
Harvey Junior Gower, 88, of Grant Town, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on January 26, 1935 in Crellin, Maryland, a son of the late Harvey F. and Gwendola Baker Gower. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Eleanor Sipes Gower, on December 24, 2022.
Mr. Gower was Veteran with the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He retired from Eastern Association Coal Company as a coal miner and tipple operator in the Federal #1 Grant Town mine. Harvey was a very talented woodworker and enjoyed traveling in his retirement.
He is survived by his son, Douglas R. and his wife Eraina Gower of Grant Town, his son-in-law, William Lukins of Grant Town, his daughter-in-law, Kathy Gower of McCurdysville, as well as 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Harvey was preceded in death by five of his children: Robert L. Gower, Roger A. Gower, Harvey D. Gower, John R. Gower, and Linda D. Lukins, as well as his sister, Ruth Eddy.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesvile, WV. A committal service will be held at the WV National Cemetery, 42 Veterans Memorial Lane, Grafton, WV 26354 on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 11AM with Pastor Bill Reger officiating.
