Obituary of Mary Katherine Hofer Lanham

Mary Katherine Hofer Lanham, 84, of the Brushy Fork Community, Bridgeport, passed away unexpectedly at United Hospital Center on April 10, 2023, after a heart attack. She is survived by her three children, John (Amy) Lanham, of Horner, Patricia (Troy) Cunningham, with whom she shared her home, and Kathleen (Michael) Mazza, of Mt. Clare. She is also survived by five grandchildren who she adored and loved spending time with and who will remember her for the projects they did with her, Abigail and Zyla Lanham of Horner and Isabella, Samuel and Amelia Mazza of Mt. Clare. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lanham, and a granddaughter, Caitlin Rose Cunningham. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Olga Hofer, and her brother, Kenneth Hofer. Mary is also survived by her sister-in-law and best friend, Rebecca Lanham Moore of Volga, her nieces, Christie (Mike) Snyder of Elizabeth, West Virginia and Elizabeth (Ernie) Mokuiki of Washington State. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Mary was a homemaker. Prior to having children, she was employed as a Legal Secretary and spent time traveling the United States with her friends. She grew up on the family farm helping her family to raise turkeys, chickens, and cattle, helped operate a dairy farm and tended their garden. She then raised her family on that same farm. Mary was a very talented seamstress. She made baby clothes for her grandchildren as well as doll clothes. She also made the best baby bibs that she gave as gifts for baby showers. A handmade gift from Mary was very special as you knew she put a lot of time and effort into it. She was known for being a perfectionist with her crafts. Mary was a well-loved member of the Brushy Fork Community. Mary was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and also helped with vacation bible school. Her community will deeply miss her. Mary was also a member of the Trinity CEOS. She spent many hours volunteering her time for not only the community projects, but also county projects as well. Mary donated her time to the Quilt Guild doing various projects. Mary participated in Silver Sneakers and met a lot of friends there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to the Trinity CEOS. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, WV 26330, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 11a.m. until 1 p.m. the funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 1 p.m. A committal service will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
