Obituary of Helen JoAnn Hawkinberry

Helen JoAnn Hawkinberry, 91, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at her home. She was born on April 26, 1932, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Albert V. and Dorothy L. Fortney. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Raymond. Helen was a Christian by faith and a former member of the Red Hat Society. For many years, she worked as a custodian with the Quality Insurance Company in Fairmont. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and collecting. She loved her jewelry and the outdoors, especially visiting Morris Park and Valley Falls. She found great joy spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by five sons, Randy Hawkinberry of Fairmont, Kevin Hawkinberry of Fairmont, Albert Hawkinberry of Fairmont, Duane and his wife Beverly of Carolina, WV, and David Hawkinberry and his wife Michelle of Fairmont, and one daughter, Merry Schmuck of Fairmont. Helen is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Heather Howard, Heath Welch, Brandy McDonald, Jason Pheasant, Mindy Stevenski, Megan Hawkinberry, Airi Lemasters, Amanda Hawkinberry, Makenzie Hawkinberry, and Kayla Hawkinberry, as well as several great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Fortney, one daughter, Misty Hawkinberry, one son, Raymond (Burke) Hawkinberry, and one grandchild, Bunny Hawkinberry. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received on Monday, July 24, 2023, from 4 pm until 6 pm. The memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 6 pm with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating. A private committal service will be held at a later date in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
