Obituary of John William Poster II

John William Poster II of Fairmont went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 24, 2023. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was born on September 27, 1947 in Fairmont. John worked for Consolidated Coal Company for 27 years and was a member of the UMWA. He loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, watching NHRA races, westerns, and Steelers. John built houses, painted cars, raced cars at Eldora and farmed. He was a hard-working man who loved his family. John is the son of the late John “Duck” Poster. He is survived by his mother at 95 years, Betty Ice Poster; wife of 56 years, Rita Cain Poster of Fairmont; son, John (J) W. Poster III; daughter, Kelly Poster Sanders and her husband David Sanders; and grandchildren, Madison and Gavin Sanders, who were his world. John is also survived by his DeMoss children by love, Beth, Mary, Richard “Bubs”, and Mike Wininger; his siblings, Diana Hendershot (Jack), Debbie Graham (Damon), and Michael Poster (George’anne); in-laws, Nita Pettigrew (Randy), Carl Cain (Vicki), and Caryn Reeves (Allen); as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by Tom and Sue Collins and Paul and Winnie Eddy. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 1 p.m. with John’s great nephew, Blake A.
