Dear Cathy and Sheila,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beautiful, sweet angel mother. She was a gem!! And I know she is shining brighter than ever on the other side!
This is Jennifer Kastendieck, formerly Sister Jennifer Smith from Canada. I served in Fairmont during the last half of 1982.
Meeting and hanging out with your family was a huge highlight of my mission. Recently I have spent a lot of time reminiscing about my time in West Virginia and thought I would see if I could look you up somehow.
Sadly, I came across Alan's obituary, and then your Mom's.
From what I understand you have both lost your husbands and your parents in a very few short years. My heart aches for you. May you find continued hope and peace in the gospel after so much loss.
The thing I remember most about visiting in your parents' home was all the love and laughter. I remember laughing until we cried....and the phenomenon of your family getting sleepy after eating onions. Funny, the little things we remember. (And of course I'll never forget the Alan and Cathy whirlwind courtship :)
I am married, with 5 children. We are now expecting our 9th and 10th grandchildren. Life has had its ups and downs, as is expected, and I am grateful for the anchor of the gospel through it all!
Hugs to you both and to your families at this tender time.
