Obituary of Loretta J. Emery

Loretta Jean Dean Emery, 82, of Fairmont, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 13, 1941 in Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late Willard and Elizabeth Dean. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, David Gary Emery. Mrs. Emery was a member of the Gateway United Methodist Church. She was a 1959 graduate of Fairview High School where she was a majorette. She later graduated from Morgantown Beauty School and worked as a beautician for many years at various shops, ending with the Les Cheveux Salon in Fairmont. Loretta and her husband were avid bicyclists, having biked many local rail trails, as well as the C&O Trail and the Great Allegheny Pass. She and her husband also enjoyed camping, and boating on the Mon River, as well as at the Sutton Dam. They enjoyed vacationing with family at the Outer Banks for over 57 years, considering it a “second home”. She loved her dogs dearly. In addition to her husband, Loretta is survived by her son, Derek Emery, her daughter, Deirdre and her husband David Duncan, her grandchildren Bryce and Gage Duncan, her nephew and niece, Jamie and Cherie Emery, as well as her close friends and former ’59 classmates: Lois Boyle, Debbie Tropea, and all of her Les Cheveux friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Marion County Humane Society, PO Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26555. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV.
