Obituary of Hubert "Bud" Winfred Cox Jr.
Hubert “Bud” Winfred Cox Jr., 95, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Mapleshire Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown. Bud was born in Fairmont on August 18, 1921, a son of the late Hubert Winfred Cox Sr. and Margaret Isabelle Cramer Cox. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Bea Barret Cox.
In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by his son, Gary Michael Cox and his wife Andrae Konya Cox; two daughters, Belinda Faye Cox Clyde and her husband Tim Clyde and Margaret “Janie” Cox Robinson and her husband William A. Robinson; nine grandchildren, Justin P. Clyde, Andrew J. Clyde, Tevin M. Clyde, Ashley E. Smelser, Brianne R. Johnson, Jillian L. Waslo, Heather M. Cox-McClain, Stephanie Pethtel and Seth Cox; 14 great grandchildren, Jordan Johnson, Emjae Johnson, Weston Lowery, Ross Smelser, Reese Smelser, Hayden Clyde, Titus Clyde, Keaton Clyde, Addison Clyde, Brooklyn Clyde, Scarlett Clyde, Noah Pethtel, Trey Pethtel, and Caden Cox.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Edward Cox and his sister, Betty Jean Manley.
Bud was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and worked as a Machinist mate in the U.S. Navy, served as the first motorcycle police patrol officer for the City of Fairmont, in consumer credit for First National Bank and as Pro Shop manager at the Fairmont Field Club. Bud dearly loved his family, golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, tailgating and his beloved cat, Sammy.
In honor of Bud’s love for animals, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Marion County Humane Society, PO Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26554.
In accordance with Bud’s wished, his body will be cremated. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554, on Friday, December 9, 2016, from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, December 9, 2016, at 6 p.m. with Pastor Thomas P.
