Obituary of Peggy Joyce Moodispaugh Cross

Peggy Cross left her “temporary home on earth,” as she liked to say, Saturday, December 16, 2023. Born Peggy Joyce Moodispaugh in Clarksburg, WV on Friday, July 13, 1934, she was the daughter of Wilma Sandy Moodispaugh and Boyd Roger Moodispaugh. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her stepfather Alston Moodispaugh; her two sisters, Virginia Moodispaugh Hill (Jack) and Jean Moodispaugh Corder; and her baby brother Gary Moodispaugh. Peggy and the love of her life David Lee Cross married on June 26, 1954, spending 69 years together. She is also survived by their two children, Debra Cross Nelson (Kelly) and David Lee Cross II; her sister-in-law Carole Moodispaugh; brother-in-law, A. Lynn Corder; and many, many nieces and nephews. Peggy received great joy from raising her family, especially being a grandmother. She is survived by four grandsons, Nicholas David Dawkins (Stacie Aliff) of Bridgeport; Holden David Cross (Abby) of Bridgeport; Cameron Matthew Nelson (Bianca Andre) of Washington, DC; and Connor McKenzie Nelson (Victoria Stingo) of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by one very special granddaughter, Peyton Leigh Cross of Morgantown, WV. Peggy immensely enjoyed her three sweet great-grandchildren, Adaleia RoseMarie Cross, Eliana Roma Cross, and Judah Holden Cross. In addition, she is survived by two daughters-in-law, Jackie Carder Cross and Heather Heckman Cross. Peggy was a proud graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School in Clarksburg. As a long-time member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport, faith and family were very important to her. She and Dave were embraced by their church family which has been very supportive in their later years. Peggy loved gardening and canning, as well as working in her yard with her flowers. She sold Avon in the Bridgeport area for 48 years. Her twinkling eyes, quick wit, and welcoming smile turned her customers into friends who were like family. David and Peggy were fortunate to travel with his work hosting pharmacists on trips worldwide. They made many wonderful friends through Bridgeport Rotary. Peggy loved her weekly dinners out with her Rotary Girls. Thanks to Barbara Farcin and Carolyn Sutton for always picking up Peggy and Jeannie Jenkins for a special treat to eat out each week. Peggy’s family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers who have provided valuable assistance. Amanda Murphy, Village Caregivers, has been a treasure as well as have hospice nurse Alissa Jenkins, and aide Lexi Ladd. Caregiver Peggy Dunn was just getting to know Peggy but the two spent hours talking about their lives and families. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 E. Main St., Bridgeport, WV 26330, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Sean Wegener and Reverend Dr. C.
