Obituary of Jimmy Douglas Straight
Jimmy Douglas Straight, 67, of Monumental, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family
on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at his residence. He was born on October 9, 1956, in Fairmont, a son
of the late Jimmie F. and Betty L. Tennant Straight. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years,
Debra “Debbie” N. Efaw Straight.
Jimmy was raised in the Monumental United Methodist Church. He was a 1974 graduate of
Barrackville High School, and attended the Marion County Vo-Tech program where he obtained
his Electrical Certification. Jimmy spent 40 years as a coal miner in the Federal No. 2 Coal Mine.
He was an avid bowler, participating in many leagues throughout the years at the Fairmont
Bowling Center. He was also a proud outdoorsman, as he enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout
West Virginia, especially hunting in Wadestown and fishing at Gandy Creek. He will be
missed by his 2 fur babies, Pashi and Petey.
In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by his two sons, J.D. Straight and his wife Megan of
Monumental, and Jason Straight and his wife Suzzetta of Monumental, a daughter, Marie Griffin
and her husband Bobby of Robinson Run, two sisters, Linda Redmond, and Joann Bowers and
her husband Mike of Monumental, seven grandchildren, Ethan Straight, Gage Straight, Jacob
Straight, Danielle Goff, Robert “Hammie” Griffin, Katelynn Straight, and Aaronn Straight, as
well as three great grandchildren, LaLeighonnah, Kainen, and Khaliyah.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his first wife, Madgette Straight, his
granddaughter, Mikayla Straight, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Redmond.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street,
Fairmont. Friends will be received on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 2 pm until 8 pm and again
on Friday from 10 am until 11 am. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday
at 11 am with Reverend Stephanie Bennett officiating. A service of committal will follow in the
