Obituary of Earnest "Sass" Warren Storms
Earnest “Sass” Warren Storms, 88, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at his residence in Colfax. He was born on October 2, 1935 in Fairmont, a son of the late William and Alice L. Storms Eddy. Sassy is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carrie L. (Knight) Storms.
Sass was a 1954 graduate of East Fairmont High School and proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany, and later served with the National Guard. He was a faithful member of the Colfax United Methodist Church. Sass worked as an underground mechanic for 20 years at the Martinka Mines. He previously worked as a machinist with Pratt & Whitney for 11 years, and two years with Ford Motor Company.
Sass was a member of the Fairmont Acacia Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M. , and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Sass enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and woodcarving, where he specialized in carving birds and “old men” faces. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Sass is survived by his son, Kevin Warren Storms and his wife Bonnie of Monroe, WA, two daughters, Terri Lee Storms and her companion Ralph Edwards of Fairmont, and Tammy Lynn Storms of Fairmont, one brother, William G. Storms and his wife Marquita of Greencastle, PA, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Cathy Storms of Connecticut and Pauline Lewis of Grafton, one brother-in-law, Richard Knight and his wife Rozella of Fairmont, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sassy was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Storms, and one sister-in-law, Dorthea Keener of Ohio.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends will be received on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 4pm until 8pm and on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 10am until 12 Noon. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 12 Noon with Reverend Jim Zinn and Reverend Michael Richards. Interment services will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens where Masonic rites will be performed at graveside by Acacia Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M.
