Obituary of Philip Donald Fisher
Philip Donald Fisher, 75, of Fairmont, passed away at the Fairmont Medical Center on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. He was born in Fairmont on November 20, 1948, a son of the late Donald Fisher and Betty Nicholson Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Penelope Kellar Fisher.
Philip was a Methodist by faith, and proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of his own business, Fisher’s Elderly Care in Fairmont, WV, which he operated with his wife for over 30 years. Philip was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hiking, camping, and picnicking with his family. He also found enjoyment in collecting coins and playing poker with friends.
Philip is survived by his children, Xylona Newbrough and her husband Timothy, step-son, Richard Groat of Charleston, WV, step-daughter, Sheila Welton of Fairmont, grandchildren, Triston Newbrough and his wife Victoria of KS, Heustan O’Dell and his fiancé Stephanie Swisher, Caleb Newbrough and his companion Anna Phillips, Haleigh O’Dell and her companion Brian Crowe, Skyler Newbrough, and Saylor Newbrough, great-grandson, Landon Newbrough, and sister, Diana Asterino of CA.
Philip was also preceded in death by his daughter, Salina O’Dell, step-sons, Fredrick Groat, and Randy Groat, and step-daughter, Shari Groat.
Memorial contributions may be made in Philip’s memory to the Marion County Humane Society, 2731 Locust Ave, Fairmont, WV 26554.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. In accordance with Philip's wishes, cremation services will occur.
