Obituary of Arley Edsel Nicholson

Arley Edsel Nicholson went Home to be with his Savior on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Arley (Uncle Eddie) celebrated his 100th birthday with family and special friends on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Clarksburg Healthcare Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born on March 22, 1924, at Avon in Doddridge County. His parents, who are deceased, are Arley L. and Eva Adelaide (Addie) Sherwood Nicholson. He has six siblings, all of whom are deceased, James Orville, Audrey Lea (Brooks), Hobert Kenneth, Cyril Cassell, Lois Christina (LeMasters), and Eva Lenore (Green). Arley (also known as Eddie in the family) grew up on the farm in Avon, attending Double Camp School and Doddridge County High School. He moved to Ohio to work in the paper mills and was chosen as part of a team sent to Egypt to determine the feasibility of building a factory there. However, the Seven Days War broke out and he was sent to Greece, instead. When he returned to the US, he transferred to a plant in Michigan, and then moved to a job at the Ford Motor Factory north of Dundee, MI. Arley (or Nick, as the folks in Michigan called him), attended several community college classes and served in several capacities in the Monroe and Dundee city/county offices. He retired from Ford Motor Company as a union supervisor and member of UAW and lived at Eagle Springs (Dundee) until 2020 when he returned to West Virginia to be close to his nieces (Patty Riley and Lorie Mutchler) and families. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. At Arley’s request, his body will be cremated. There will be no public visitation or funeral services. A private committal service will be held at the Snider Cemetery in Doddridge County, WV at a later date.
