Obituary of Donald Allen Lilley

Donald Allen Lilley, 88, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at his residence. He was born on January 15, 1936 in Fairmont, a son of the late Harold G. and Hannah C. Peyton Lilley. Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Jo Tinder Lilley, whom passed in September 2020. Donald proudly worked as a coal miner, where he was a sheer operator from 1969 until 1998 with the Consolidated Coal Company. He found joy in spending time with his friends and family. He was a very giving man, as he demonstrated love to everyone he interacted with. He deeply loved his family, including his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donald is survived by his son, Gregory Lilley and his wife Sherri of Clarksburg, six grandchildren, Zack Lilley and his wife Cindy of Barrackville, Joshua Cease and his wife Amanda of Orlando, FL, Caitlyn Michael of Fairmont, Heather Cease of Orlando, FL, Cameron Michael of Whitehall, and Corey Lilley of Clarksburg, five great-grandchildren, Joanna Lilley of Barrackville, Liam Cease of Orlando Florida, Savannah Lilley, Logan Cease of Orlando, FL, and Vincent Lilley of Barrackville, sister, Darlene Lilley Emerick, his son-in-law, John Michael of Fairmont, special friends, Mike Scheckel and his wife Michelle of Phoenix, AZ, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was a great great uncle and will be missed by all. In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Michael, two sisters, Jessie “Peggy” Marie Peake, Anita “Poochie” Jane Hayes, and two brothers Charles “Skip” Ray Lilley, and David Dale Lilley. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to the Restoration Church, 409 Market Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. In accordance with Donald’s wishes, cremation services will occur. A celebration of life service will be held at the Restoration Church on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 11 am with his son, Pastor Gregory Lilley officiating.
