Obituary of Robert L. Murphy Sr.

Robert L. Murphy Sr., 89, of Fairmont passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Fairmont Medical Center. He was born on February 13, 1935, in Fairmont the son of the late Paul and Bertha Murphy. Robert is survived by his daughter, Annie Boyce of Fairmont; sons, Robert Murphy Jr. of Fairmont, Richard E. Murphy of Colfax Community, and Virgil Murphy and his wife Janice of Fairmont; grandchildren, Alice Boyce Bragg and her husband Paul, Mary Boyce and her boyfriend Chris McGlumphy, David Boyce, Ashley Stewart and her husband Casey, and Nicole Murphy; as well as his great-grandchildren, Nicole Freeman and her fiancée Brandon Spencer, Zoie Spicer, and Spence Stewart. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pearl Baker Murphy; daughter-in-law, Sandy Murphy; and a great-daughter-in-law, Margie Boyce. Robert worked in construction and as a truck driver. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, working on his trucks, and mechanics. He adored his cats, and loved to have a chocolate frosty any day and always worried about the wellbeing of the others around him. He was always tinkering around and working outside before he became ill. The Family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. A committal service will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
