Obituary of Betty J. Morris Reed
Betty J. Morris Reed, 94, formerly of Bridgeport, WV, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 11, 2024 at home in Pickerington, OH. She was born on August 24, 1930, in Moatsville, WV, a daughter of the late Pete S. and Hattie R. Moats Morris. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leslie G. Reed.
She was a proud graduate from Philippi High School and the Clarksburg Business School. Betty was also a faithful member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Lora D. Kirby (LDK) Women’s Circle. She took pride in serving her community, as she was a former member of the Queen Esther Chapter 11 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Bridgeport. Betty valued family traditions, as she was known to make homemade apple butter and pickles. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed watching WVU athletic events, and cherished her precious time spent with her friends and family.
Betty is survived by her loving children, one son, Richard (Andrea) Reed of Richmond Hill, GA, two daughters, Paula (Mark) Fleming of Baltimore, OH, and Pamela Reed of Pickerington, OH, four grandchildren, Sawyer (Briana) Reed, Olivia (Daniel) Kapfhammer, Aubri Reed, and Camille Fleming, two great grandchildren, Harper and Rosalie Rae Reed, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by six siblings, Roy Morris, Fred Morris, Claude Morris, Carl Morris, Freda Weaver, and Lillian Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made in Betty’s memory to the Clarksburg Mission and Echo Hospice of Ohio, 8050 North High Street, Suite 160, Columbus, OH 43234.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. Friends will be received on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 10 am until 12:30 pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 12:30 pm with Reverend Dr. Michael C. Hopkins officiating. A service of committal will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
