Obituary of Ray Stewart Adkins
Ray Stewart Adkins Sr., 85, of Fairmont, West Virginia died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 17, 1931 in Macon, GA a son of the late Ernest Lloyd Adkins & Josie Katherine Mooney Adkins. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Ann Bennett Adkins in 2011.
He is survived by a son and daughter in law Ray & Charlotte Adkins Jr. of Webster Springs, WV, two daughters Teresa Adkins & Carrie Adkins both of Charlotte, N.C., a step son and his wife Timothy & Judy Maple Sr. of Fairmont, WV, a step daughter and her husband Kathy & Johnny Morrison of Parkersburg, WV, 8 grandchildren including his caretaker Tammy Jo Carr of Fairmont, WV, several great grandchildren and a daughter in law Susan Maple of Fairmont. He was preceded in death by two brothers Ernest Adkins Jr. & Ralph Adkins and two step sons Robert Maple & Ronald Maple.
Mr. Adkins was retired from the United States Navy with 20 years of service having been stationed in Japan. Ray served during World War II. He also was a former postal clerk for the United States Postal Service. Ray was a Protestant by faith, loved being with family & friends and enjoyed golf.
The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554 Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 3-8 p.m. and Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Evangelist Stan Jenkins officiating.
