Obituary of Gladys "Jean" Ashcraft
Gladys “Jean” Ashcraft, 83, of Bridgeport, formerly of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Maplewood Assisted Living in Bridgeport. Jean was born on September 26, 1933, daughter of the late Clyde Edward Ashcraft and Grace Edna Johnson Ashcraft.
Jean was a 1951 graduate of Mannington High School and attended Rutgers University in accounting. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Mannington. She worked as a bookkeeper for James Chevrolet in Mannington and after moving to New Jersey, an accountant for U.S. Cocoa Company for over 35 years. Jean enjoyed going on cruises, traveling the U.S. as well as Europe, and flower gardening.
Jean is survived by a brother, John Ashcraft of Las Vegas, NV; four nieces and nephews, Benita Jernigan and her husband Joe of Fairmont, Sandra Bajus and her husband John of Fairmont, Jeff Ashcraft and his wife Lisa of Irvine, CA, and Wendy Lawson and her husband Steve of Corona, CA. Also surviving are several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Keith Ashcraft and two sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Ashcraft and Karen Ashcraft.
The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 1 p.m. A committal service will follow at Mannington Memorial Park.
