Obituary of Nadine Davis

Nadine Davis,90, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 in her residence.  She was born June 3, 1926 in Philippi, WV a daughter of the late Hartsel H. and Crecia Marteney Burner.  She was preceded in death by her second husband, Royce L. Davis on December 7, 2008.

Mrs Davis was a 1945 graduate of Bridgeport High School.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg.  She retired in 1989 from the Harrison County Board of Education where she served as school cook.  She started her career at Anmore Grade School and ended at Johnson Elementary.  She previously worked with the Clarksburg Credit Bureau as well as Bland’s Drug Store.  Nadine was a member of the GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport, the Harrison County Board of Education retirees, the ladies auxillary of the American Legion Post #68, the ladies circle of First United Methodist Church.  Upon retirement, she and her husband drove cross country in their RV to the country.  Nadine like to let people know that she was “ninth of fourteen kids and the last one living”.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, word search puzzles, and drinking hot tea. 

Nadine is survived by her children, Brenda and her husband Dale Swiger of Bridgeport, and Rodney and his wife Wendy McEldowney of The Villages, FL; her grandchildren, Eric and his wife Misty Swiger, and Erin and her husband Kemper Jacobs; her great- grandchildren, Chelsea Kirby, Haley Swiger, Jackson Jacobs, Hayden Jacobs, and Kaitlyn Frazier; and her “adopted daughter”  Linda Skidmore.

In addition to her second husband, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband and father of her children, Virgil McEldowney, as well as her brothers and sisters: Gerald , Thomas, Edsel, Morris, Loye, and Stokely Burner, Lena Lowther, Loraine Nicholson, Pauline Runyon, Bonnie King, Norma Burner, Genevieve Burner, and Mabel Burner

The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice, and specifically Sarah and Courtney for the care and love they have shown Nadine over the past several months.

Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street Bridgeport on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 2PM until 8PM, and on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 12 noon until 1PM.  The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 1PM with Reverend Elizabeth Baker officiating.   Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial  Park in Clarksburg, WV.   Online condolences may be made to www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
