Obituary of Dorris Virginia Frush
Dorris Virginia Frush of Bridgeport, WV passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Dorris was born February 8, 1924 in Clarksburg, WV and lived her entire life in Bridgeport with the exception of the last five years which she lived in Myrtle Beach, SC with her daughter Deanna and son-in-law Cecil Sasher and grandson Travis.
Dorris was a lifelong member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and a member of the choir. If there was an activity in Bridgeport, Dorris was there helping or just having fun. She loved collecting antique glassware, painting, taking care of her flowers and the love and fellowship of her family, neighbors and friends. Dorris was an avid supporter of the humane society and she never met any animal that she did not love.
She was a lifetime member of the League for Service, a charter member of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service, a charter member of the Junior Woman’s Club and a member of the Senior Woman’s Club. She was also a member of the Governor Johnson Garden Club, a member of the Bridgeport Lions Club and an active member of the Bridgeport High School Alumni and Friends.
Music was an enjoyment for Dorris. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was charter member of the Harrison County Chorus (under the direction of Anna Mae Combs), a member of the Community Concert Association, past president of FUMM (music) and the former choir director of Songster Children’s Choir at Bridgeport United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Frush, her parents David and Leona Mader, her sister Patricia Mader Hartzell and her nephew John Hartzell.
Dorris is survived by her son James W. Frush, Jr. and his partner Linda Gutsell; her daughter Deanna Sasher and husband Cecil, her brother David Mader, Jr. and his wife Eveline Carpenter Mader. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Matthew T. Marple, James B. Marple, Dr. Melonie Marple Angus and her husband Neil, Stephanie Frush Smart and her husband Fred, Michael Frush, Michael Sasher, Jeffrey Sasher, Keith Sasher and nine great grandchildren Lillyanna, Eli, Braden, Logan, and Jackson Smart, Breckin Marple, Sean, Colton and Harper Sasher; one niece Deborah Mader McMahn and one nephew David Mader, III.
It is the request of Dorris that in lieu of flowers donation be made in her name to the Humane Society of Harrison County, 2450 Saltwell Road, Shinnston, WV 26431 or to the Bridgeport United Methodist Church Permanent Fund, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport WV 26330.
A Gathering of family and friends will be at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV on Saturday from 10:00AM – 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the church on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Dr. Ken A. Ramsey presiding. The interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, WV.
