Obituary of Fred B. Wilson
Fred B. Wilson, 96, of Fairmont, passed away at his residence on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was born April 19, 1919 in Swandale, WV (Clay County), a son of the late Ord and Blema Butcher Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Zinn Wilson in 2009.
Mr. Wilson was a Christian by faith. He was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg and Salem College in Salem where he was captain of the golf team. Fred served in the US Army during World War II where he served as a tank commander and was stationed in both Italy and Northern Africa. He was a talented golfer. He was a past WV State Amateur Golf Champion. He golfed with many celebrities throughout his life. He was nicknamed “Dead Eye” because of his golfing skills. Fred played locally at Fox Hill, White Day, and Green Hills golf courses. Fred was a past member of both the VFW of Fairmont and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #294 of Fairmont.
He is survived by his son, James and his wife Judy Wilson of Barrackville, WV; his daughters, Mary Delores and her husband Emil Peasak of Bridgeport, and Elizabeth Ann Queen of Buckhannon; grandchildren: Annette and her husband Mike Mahan of Charlotte, NC, Josh Peasak, Jennifer Destito, Jeannie Messer, Neil Floyd, and Scott Floyd and their families, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his son Freddie Wilson and two infant sons, Timothy Harvey Wilson and John Robert Wilson. He was the last surviving and youngest of eight children which included Ircle, Charles, Kenna, Freda, Louise, Mildred “Mary”, and Marie Wilson

Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Monday, March 28, 2015 from 2PM until 8PM and on Tuesday, March 29, 2015 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, March 29, 2015 at 11 AM with his nephew Pastor Richard Wilson officiating the service. Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairmont, WV. Military services will be held at graveside by the Marion County Veterans Council.
