Obituary of Randall Lynn Spragg
Randall Lynn Spragg, 71, of Fairmont, passed away on March 3, 2018 at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. He was born on January 25, 1947 in Fairmont, a son of the late Robert Lynn and Lillian Maxine Steele Spragg.
Randy was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, and trained at the Fairmont Clinic to become a Medical Technologist specializing in Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis. He was employed with Fairmont General Hospital for over 30 years, where he was instrumental in teaching clinical instruction to Fairmont State MLT students. Randy was a registered ASCP and held AMT state office with leadership roles as a board member, treasurer, and editor. On the national level, Randy won several awards, including: The Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merritt, Pillar, Silver Service, and the State Mountaineer Awards. Randy enjoyed cooking, baking, making his especially delicious peanut butter fudge. He loved doing word search puzzles, reconnecting with friends on Facebook, traveling, and relaxing at his condo at Myrtle Beach.
Randy is survived by his twin brother, Richard A. and his wife Nancy Smith Spragg, his nieces and nephews: Gary Spragg, Kimberly (Spragg) LeFevre, Shawn and his wife Jessica Spragg, Lisa (Spragg) and her husband Leo Nanni, and Michael Spragg, as well as great nieces and nephews: Ashley Spragg, Tanner and Hunter Spragg, Nathan LeFevre, Alec, Zach, Matt and Katie Spragg, Rylee Nanni, Mackenzie, Hunter Kendall, Presley and Jaxyn Spragg. Randy also leaves behind many cousins, neighbors and close friends who loved him dearly. Randy’s extended family included Bobbie Hillberry, Charlene Walker, Kitty Carr, and Charlotte Lawler.
In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his brother Robert Spragg, and his special long time friend Tom Shumate.
In his most recent stay at Genesis Healthcare, he was very appreciative and grew very fond of the many therapists who helped him, along with the head chef James who presented him with many special treats including a homemade birthday cake.
Friends and family may visit at the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 2PM until 8PM and on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11AM with his cousin, Pastor Gary Steele officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
