Obituary of Martha Vandergrift

Martha Vandergrift, 92 years old died on March 21, 2018 while residing at Passavant Home in Zelienople, PA. Martha was born on August 26, 1925 in Fairmont, WV, and lived in several locations in Marion County, including Monumental Community, and in Wadestown until she moved to Pennsylvania in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Vandergrift of Fairmont, and her parents Carl Everett and Nellie (Barr) Tennant of Monumental and Wadestown; as well as her brother Clifford Tennant of Fairmont, and her best friends Dottie and Ebony the Dalmatians. Martha is survived by her daughter Vickie Vandergrift of Wexford, PA, sister Betty Shaver of Wadestown, and nieces and nephews in the Tennant and Shaver families.

Martha graduated from Barrackville High School in the spring of 1947, completed business classes at Fairmont Business School, and worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. including as paymaster until it’s closure in 1982. She also worked at the Marion County Courthouse and Martinka Mines before her retirement.

Services will be private as will interment at Monumental United Methodist Church. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Martha’s memory to any charity caring for dogs.
