Obituary of Rev. Elizabeth "Betty" Shaver Wycoff
Rev. Elizabeth “Betty” Shaver Wycoff joined her departed family and friends in Heaven, June 26, 2018, after several long illnesses. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Emmett and Delma Shaver. She was born on the Shaver Farm (Old Monongah Road, Fairmont) on March 20, 1932.
Betty is survived by her husband Rev. Ralph Wycoff; her brothers, Otis Shaver of Pleasant Valley, James Shaver and his wife Florencia of the Shaver Farm; step-children, Frieda Albright and her husband Rev. Larry Albright of Huntington, Rose Wolf of Boothsville and Ralph Wycoff Jr. and his wife Deloris of Farmington; as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her late husband Rev. Edwin Smith; her brother, John M. Shaver; step-son, Dallas Smith and his wife Mildred; a sister-in-law, Peggy Blackwood Shaver; and step son-in-law, Allan Wolf.
While she had no biological children, scores of children all over WV in parishes where she served considered her as their “spiritual mom”.
Betty attended Monongah schools and graduated from WV Wesleyan College in Philippi with a Divinity Degree and was ordained as an elder and pastor in the Methodist Church. She started serving the Lord as a teenager and retired after more than 65 years in the ministry, she then served as Minister Emeritus at the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Friday, June 29, 2018, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Rev. Wycoff will lie in state on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1511 Pleasant Valley Road, Fairmont, WV 26554, from 3:45 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. The funeral service will take place in the church at 4:45 p.m. with Reverend David Hall and Reverend Andrew Tennant officiating.
