Obituary of Roger David Perdue

Roger David Perdue, 71, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was born June 28, 1947 in Madison, WV a son of the late Glenn S. and Mary M. Stollings Perdue.  He is survived by his wife Patti A. Perdue.

Roger was a member of the Central Christian Disciples of Christ Church in Fairmont where he was very active and served as an Elder, Trustee, Deacon, Chairman of several committees, and taught adult Sunday School.

He graduated from Scott High School.  He attended Potomac State College and graduated from WVU with a degree in agriculture and then obtained his Masters degree from WVU as well.  Roger retired from the Marion County Board of Education with 38 years of service in his career. He served 7 years at the former Mannington High School as a vocational agricultural science teacher. He then retired as Administrative Assistant for career and technical education.

Roger was a huge WVU football and basketball fan and enjoyed gardening and reading the daily newspaper and spending time with his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He served with the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army and Future Farmers of America.

In addition to his wife Patti, he is survived by his daughters, Shelle and her husband Dan Miller of Fairmont, and Amanda and her husband Kevin Hamilton of Fairmont, his grandchildren, Hannah Miller, Kaelin Hamilton, and Brody Hamilton, his brothers, John and his wife Robin Perdue of Cross Lanes, WV, and Steve and his wife Cindy Perdue of Charleston, WV, and his sister, Judy Perdue of Manila, WV, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Allen and Bonnie VanGilder.

The family requests memorial contributions be made in Roger’s memory to Relay for Life- Disciples of Christ Church Team, 1640 Big Tree Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554.

Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 1PM until 8PM and on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 10 AM until 11AM.  The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 11AM with Dr. Robin Norsworthy officiating.  Interment will follow at the Mt.
