Obituary of John William Ebert

John William Ebert, 86, of Bridgeport, West Virginia went home to be with our Lord on Sunday June 12, 2016 surrounded by family at his condo in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born in Hammond, Indiana on July 12, 1929 to the late Lillian and Raymond Ebert. He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne Feeley Ebert, his daughter Theresa Ebert, his brothers James, Raymond, and Lawrence Ebert, his sisters Mary Cullen and Jeanne Clare. John attended the University of Notre Dame where here earned degrees in finance and accounting. He served our country in the army during the Korean War. John married Suzanne Feeley of Hornell New York on April 12, 1958. They moved to Youngstown, Ohio where John began his career in accounting with Ernst & Ernst. He then had a long career with Todco Overhead Door which took his family to Marion, Ohio and then to Dallas, Texas. John and his oldest son John embarked on the McDonald's business in 1990 which brought them to Bridgeport, West Virginia. They now have 23 McDonald's restaurants in the West Virginia and Maryland area. He was beloved by his employees and customers. He worked in the restaurants until his mid-70’s and then in the office until his mid-80’s. His strong negotiation skills resulted in the purchase of restaurants from six different operators. His son John was blessed to follow in his footsteps first at Notre Dame, then in public accounting, and finally McDonald’s. John was known for his kind and generous spirit. He loved life, but most of all, he loved his children and his grandchildren. He loved going to his grandchildren's sporting events and gathering together for family meals. He was very artistic and spent his later years painting pictures for family and friends and spending hours in his workshop working on projects. John Ebert has left behind a major footprint of love on this earth. He has been an amazing role model for his children, grandchildren and employees. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by three children, a son, John and his wife Cindy and their three children, Rachel, Jack and Grace of Bridgeport, West Virginia; a daughter, Christine Nevant and her husband Chris and their three children, James, John, and Suzanne of Asheville, North Carolina; and a son, Jim Ebert of Elkins, West Virginia. He is also survived by a brother Edward Ebert of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. John was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church of Bridgeport and a member of the Knights of Columbus. A special blessing to his daughter Christine and her lovely family of Chris, James, John and Suzanne for the wonderful care they gave to him over the years and especially the last five months. John will be brought back to Bridgeport, West Virginia where he will be buried next to his wife Suzanne who passed away last month. The Ebert and Nevant families have had an amazing outpouring of love and support from family and friends in the last few weeks due to the recent passing of their mother, Suzanne Ebert. Therefore, the family has elected to have a private ceremony for their father John.
