Obituary of John Michael Barrackman

John Michael Barrackman, 89, of Barrackville, West Virginia passed away on Tuesday May 9, 2023 at his home. He was born November 9, 1933 in Fairmont, WV; the son of the late Kenneth M. Barrackman and Agnes Ruth Snoderly Barrackman. He is survived by his wife Elmira Wilson Barrackman, and their three children, son Mike Barrackman of Monumental, daughter Brenda Barrackman Coleman of Fairmont, and son Jon Mark Barrackman of Stephens City, VA. He is also survived by his granddaughters Jenna and Myra Coleman of Morgantown, Courtney Barrackman of Petersburg, Tricia Fuentes of Thomas, grandson Ryon (Liz) Fuentes of Portland OR, and great-grandson, Ashton Lambert. John is preceded in death by his sister, Doris Jean Barrackman Rhodes, of Cumming, GA; as well as his twin brother, James (Jim) Barrackman of Warren, OH. Mr. Barrackman graduated from Barrackville High school with the class of 1952, where he met his high school sweetheart, Elmira. The two were married on August 9, 1958 and enjoyed nearly 65 years of marriage. Together, they traveled to several states and countries in retirement, and were blessed with many memories with family and friends. John worked in Akron, OH for BF Goodrich before entering the US Army from 1954-1956. Following his military service, he returned home to work with J. Claude Watson as an apprentice brick mason. He worked as a mine dispatcher for Consol Coal Company at the Loveridge Mine in Fairview, WV and retired in 1997 with 36 years of service. He was an active member of the Barrackville United Methodist Church. John was a trustee and a member of the United Methodist Men. John loved attending Sunday church services with his wife and church family. John enjoyed golfing with dear friends, reading the newspaper, spending time in front of the fire place, and visiting with family and friends on the porch. John loved Woody’s hot dogs and looked forward to them every Sunday afternoon. John has joined his best friend Bill and his Barrackville buddies from the workshop around the woodstove in heaven. He was a patient man with a kind and loving heart who loved nothing more than spending time with his family. John would always help a neighbor in need and worked toward collecting his “coins for heaven”, as he called it. We know his pockets were overflowing. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, of Fairmont, WV 26554. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at the Barrackville United Methodist Church, 409 Pike Street, Barrackville, WV, on Saturday May 20th. Visitation will be held from 11am-1pm, with a celebration of his life directly following. A private committal for family will be held at the Monumental Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be sent to the Barrackville United Methodist Church.
